The Family Friendship Program is like a warm and lively invitation, welcoming international students into the everyday life of Taiwan. Supported by dedicated volunteers-including faculty members, students, parents, and alumni-participants take on the role of hosts and companions. During weekends or free time, these “local guides” bring international students to explore different parts of Taiwan, savor authentic local cuisine, and experience the vibrant energy of night markets as well as the warmth of neighborhood communities. Each moment becomes a vivid and immersive cultural lesson.

Through these relaxed and natural interactions, international students gain a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture while quickly bridging the gap between themselves and local life. This helps ease feelings of unfamiliarity and uncertainty, gradually fostering a sense of belonging. At the same time, the program encourages meaningful cross-cultural exchange, where mutual sharing and companionship spark greater understanding and connection, creating a warm, diverse, and inclusive learning environment.

The Multilingual Volunteer Group promotes the Buddy Program for international students, aiming to help them quickly adapt to both academic and daily life when they first arrive in Taiwan. Through a one-on-one buddy matching system, volunteers serve not only as language guides but also as companions in everyday life. From practicing daily conversations and assisting with coursework to introducing campus resources and facilitating cultural exchange, they provide timely and thoughtful support.

Throughout this journey of mutual companionship, international students gradually overcome the unfamiliarity and anxiety of being in a new environment, building confidence and a sense of belonging. At the same time, volunteers broaden their global perspectives and develop cross-cultural understanding through meaningful interactions. What may seem like ordinary moments quietly grow into deep connections, becoming some of the warmest and most valuable memories in each other's journey of growth.
